Improving Your Practice’s Patient Communication with ABELDent: A Comprehensive Guide

It has always been essential to communicate effectively with your patients. However, these days, patients expect modern forms of communication, not the phone calls they once would have. ABELDent Patient Communication (PCS) provides easy, secure, and convenient options for improved daily communication with patients. ABELDent PCS not only provides options for texting and emailing patients but extends to self-booking and online forms, saving your team and your patient’s time. ABELDent PCS is built directly into ABELDent Cloud and ABELDent Local+.

Some of the Features ABELDent Patient Communication Include:

New Patient Self Booking

This feature allows patients to book their own appointments with your practice via your website.
How ABELDent New Patient Self Booking Works:

  1. After completing a security verification, the new patient is prompted to add basic demographic information. With this information, ABELDent will check to see if the patient is already in your ABELDent database.
  1. After the database check, new patients can select from a list of openings based on a schedule set by your practice.
  1. Once the new patient chooses their appointment date and time, their request is sent to your schedule and marked as a reserved time.
  1. Your team can approve or deny appointment requests as needed. If your office approves the appointment, the new patient will receive an email that their appointment is booked with your practice. Alternatively, if your practice needs to deny the appointment request, the new patient will receive an email to inform them.

ABELDent will soon expand the New Patient Self Booking feature to allow existing patients the functionality for booking appointments based on contact records in your system, saving your team time and providing patients with more convenience.

New Patient Intake

The New Patient Intake feature allows patients to fill out digital New Patient Intake forms, which are inserted into their ABELDent patient record automatically. With this feature, patients do not need to arrive early for appointments to fill out paperwork – they can complete digital forms from anywhere on their personal devices. This feature also saves your team time and minimizes manual errors that stem from misreading information on paper forms or potential typing mistakes. Your team can review submitted New Patient Intake information to check for errors and accept or reject the information as needed. If accepted, the information is inserted to complete the patient’s record.

Automated Appointment Reminders

This feature allows your team to set up automatically scheduled emails and text messages that go to patients who have consented to receive messages. With this feature, patients can confirm their appointments with a single click or simple response, saving your team time they would otherwise spend calling each patient to confirm their appointments. This feature also helps you identify last-minute cancellations ahead of time, giving you more time to fill potential holes in your schedule. You also can design appointment reminders, confirmation emails, and text messages to fit your practice’s branding, tone, timing and more.

Two-Way Texting

Often, real-time communication with a patient is essential. Two-way texting via ABELDent Chat allows your team to ask patients important questions quickly without the hassle of phone tag or late email responses. ABELDent Chat allows patients to respond promptly, reducing common communication barriers.

Broadcast Messaging

Broadcast Messaging allows you to send messages to all your patients who have consented to receiving electronic messages, providing a quick and easy way to pass on important information such as holiday office hours or unexpected schedule changes that impact your whole practice. You can also use Broadcast Messaging to announce a change in office hours, send holiday greetings, let patients know about retiring team members, introduce new team members, or even remind patients to use their insurance benefits before the year ends. You can format your Broadcast Messages to look however you want and save custom templates for different messages.

Overdue Hygiene Appointment Messaging

ABELDent PCS can automatically send emails and texts to patients with overdue hygiene appointments. As with other ABELDent PCS features, you can customize these messages however you like and set up when the automated messages are sent. These messages can include a link for the patient to click and request an appointment, providing an easy way for patients to book in with your practice, minimizing the chances that they will forget to schedule their appointment. This feature is a great way to encourage patients to schedule outstanding appointments while reducing outgoing phone calls.

Health History & Other Forms

ABELDent PCS helps improve your paperless practice initiative by eliminating unnecessary paper forms. Additionally, sending unencrypted Protect Health Information (PHI) is not secure and risks patient data. ABELDent Cloud and ABELDent Local+ allow you to send forms directly to patient emails. The emails sent out contain a button that links to a secure webpage that patients can fill out on their personal devices.

When the patient submits their information, it is encrypted and returned to your ABELDent system. This process eliminates the potential of sending PHI via email, ensuring your patient’s valuable information is secure.

ABELDent’s online forms are fully customizable to fit whatever your practice may need. You can also edit existing forms to update questions and answer options to improve upon your forms without creating a new version.

Online Payments

ABELDent simplifies the collection process by allowing patients to make secure online payments. ABELDent lets you send patients with outstanding balances an email that contains a button for direct online payments. Using ABELDent’s Online Payments provides your patients with a convenient, safe, and modern payment option that is hassle-free for both your team and your patients.
